Mayor who threatened university student resigns

Mutlu Işıksu, the AKP mayor of Adapazarı, who was referred to the disciplinary committee with a request for “definitive expulsion” from the party, has resigned. Işıksu was facing allegations of threatening a university student with whom his mother allegedly had an affair.

The allegations against Işıksu came after he was referred to the disciplinary committee with a request for “definitive expulsion.”

During a meeting in Sakarya attended by the Chief Public Ombudsman Mehmet Akarca, inspectors, and provincial protocol officials, a 22-year-old law student spoke about Işıksu’s alleged affair with his mother and stated that he had taken the matter to court.

She had made “threat” allegations; Adapazarı Mayor sues female university student for 50 million lira

Following the complaint process, the student, who said she was pressured, also claimed that she was threatened by Işıksu. Işıksu, who described the allegations as “baseless” and “reputational assassination,” filed a lawsuit against the university student for 50 million TL in moral damages. It has been learned that Mayor Işıksu has been referred to the disciplinary committee following this allegation.

Mutlu Işıksu’s resignation statement is as follows:

“My legal struggle against the systematic slander, conspiracy, and blackmail campaign directed against me continues with determination.

I have no doubt whatsoever that these dirty schemes, of which I was never a part, will be thwarted before independent courts. I am 100% certain, with God’s permission, that everything will be revealed clearly in court.

I leave those who orchestrated this conspiracy, those who spread it, and those who turned this process into a tool of political lynching and operation to God’s judgment.

In order to prevent our case and our party from suffering further harm, I am temporarily resigning from my party, of which I have always been wholeheartedly devoted and of which I am honored and proud to be a member, until the court proceedings are concluded. Truth will surely prevail. I will continue to work diligently for Adapazarı, which I hold dearer than my life, and to serve our nation, God willing.”
