The New York Times (NYT) reported today that a second US fighter jet was shot down near the Strait of Hormuz almost simultaneously with the F-15 downing.
According to the NYT, citing two US officials familiar with the matter, a second US fighter jet was shot down in the Persian Gulf today.
The pilot of the aircraft survived the incident.
Meanwhile, an A-10 Warthog fighter jet was shot down near the Strait of Hormuz at the same time as the F-15.
What happened?
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps announced earlier this morning that it had shot down a fighter jet in central Iran using its air defense systems.
Iranian media reported that the pilot of the US fighter jet may have been captured and taken prisoner.
Officials speaking to US media confirmed the downing of the aircraft, stating that one crew member was rescued and search and rescue operations were underway for the second.
