Gamze a mother of three continues her father’s profession as a baker

Gamze Şimşek (29), from Eğirdir district of ISPARTA, was introduced to baking at a young age in her father’s workplace. Having learned the intricacies of the profession in those years, Şimşek now works in her own bakery. A mother of three, Şimşek said, “I am proud to stand on my own two feet through my hard work.”

Gamze Şimşek, a mother of three living in Eğirdir, was introduced to baking in her childhood. Having trained herself from a young age in her father’s bagel bakery in Sakarya, Gamze Şimşek now continues her father’s profession. Not only does she produce bagels with the oven she lights and the dough she kneads at the first light of dawn, but she is also a living example of what women can achieve with determination. Gamze Şimşek inspires by managing both motherhood and her business simultaneously.

‘I FORGET MY TIREDNESS THE MOMENT I STEP BEHIND THE OVEN’

Gamze Şimşek, explaining that she started making bagels at a young age, said, “My father has had a bagel shop in Sakarya for 35 years. I grew up alongside him from a young age. The profession I learned in those years has become my life today. Now we are running our own business in Eğirdir, keeping my father’s profession alive.”

Noting that she spends most of her day in the bakery, Şimşek said, “I wake up before sunrise. First, I get my children ready, then I come to the shop and open the door. I knead the dough and prepare the bagels one by one. The moment I step behind the oven, I forget all my tiredness. Because I do this job with love.”

‘NOTHING CAN BE ACHIEVED WITHOUT HARD WORK’

Stating that she never considered giving up her profession despite the challenging working conditions, Şimşek said, “This job really requires hard work. You work on your feet for hours, you get tired, but the final product takes away all your fatigue. Nothing can be achieved without hard work. I am proud to stand on my own two feet thanks to my hard work.”

‘A WORKING WOMAN IS A STRONG WOMAN’

Emphasizing that being a mother of three and participating in the workforce is not easy but possible, Şimşek said, “I leave my children in the morning and come to work. It’s not easy, but with determination, everything can be done. I highly value women standing on their own two feet. A working woman is a strong woman. Every woman should have a profession and be productive.”

THE SECRET TO CRISPY SIMIT IS FIRM DOUGH

Touching upon the intricacies of simit making, Şimşek said, “The secret to a good simit lies in its dough. If you keep the dough a little firm, the simit will be crispier and more crunchy. Hearing that crunch is very important to us. I experience my happiest moments while kneading the dough and preparing the molasses. Because the resulting product is entirely the result of hard work.”

‘MY FAMILY IS PROUD OF ME’

Emphasizing that her family’s support gives her strength, Gamze Şimşek said, “My mother and father are very happy when they see me like this. Continuing my father’s profession is a great source of pride for me. Knowing that I am continuing their work gives me even more motivation to work harder.”
