Bystanders beat up the drunk driver who crashed into a car waiting at a red light
In Nevşehir, Feridun Y., the intoxicated driver of a car that crashed into another car waiting at a red light, was beaten by citizens who gathered at the scene. Feridun Y., who was taken to the hospital along with his injured friend due to the blows he received, was fined 25,000 TL and his driver’s license was suspended for 6 months.
The accident occurred around 00:30 on the Ürgüp road. Feridun Y.’s car, with license plate 38 ALK573, rear-ended Merve Nur A.’s car, with license plate 34 BLM 448, which was waiting at a red light at the intersection. One person in Feridun Y.’s car was injured. After the accident, Feridun Y., who allegedly insulted the other driver and was found to be intoxicated, was beaten by citizens who gathered at the scene.
Police and medical teams were dispatched to the scene after a report was made. Feridun Y. was rescued from the beating by the police. Feridun Y., who had difficulty standing and was found to be intoxicated in the test, told the police that his brother was driving the car, saying, “My brother hit the car, I said, ‘Let me cover the damage.’ If there is any damage, we will cover it. No problem.”
Merve Nur A., the driver of the car that was hit while waiting at a red light, said, “I was normally stopped at the traffic lights. Suddenly, they hit me from behind. I got out of the car. I couldn’t understand what was happening. I looked from behind and the guy immediately smelled of alcohol. He came towards me and said, ‘Nothing’s wrong.’ Then he said, ‘Pull the car over.’ We pulled over. At that moment, I said, ‘You’re drunk, how can you do something like this?'” “I said, ‘Let’s call the police.’ He initially denied driving under the influence of alcohol, but later admitted it. I said, ‘Let’s call the police.’ He insisted I call the police. Then he tried to yell. He lunged at my mother and brother. He made physical contact with them and was about to hit us. Then the other friends arrived. They got out of the car. They tried to change drivers. I insisted, ‘Stop!’ Then they threatened me. He said, ‘I’ll call my lawyer, nobody can take my driver’s license.’ He said, ‘Let’s settle this with money. Let’s go to Kayseri.’ When I refused, he said, ‘There’s nothing wrong with this car, you can go.’ When I said I would call the police, things escalated further. He cursed at me and the police. He also cursed at my friends,” he recounted.
Feridun Y., who was injured in the accident and assaulted by the passengers and citizens, was taken to the hospital after receiving medical attention. Feridun Y. was fined 25,000 TL for ‘driving under the influence of alcohol’, and his driver’s license was suspended for 6 months.
