Seven suspects were arrested for trying to feed spoiled meat to people

Seven of the 31 suspects detained in an operation targeting individuals who allegedly manipulated meat prices and released spoiled products onto the market across eight provinces centered in Ankara have been arrested.

A statement from the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office recalled that following applications to the Presidential Communication Center (CİMER) and a criminal complaint filed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, it was determined that some livestock suppliers had drastically increased the prices of meat products and released spoiled meat onto the market.

The statement further noted that on March 31st, arrest warrants were issued for a total of 33 suspects, including 28 individuals in eight provinces (Ankara, Kırşehir, Kayseri, Konya, Bursa, Balıkesir, Istanbul, and Sakarya) and 5 public officials who allegedly leaked information about planned inspections by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. As a result of the operation, 31 suspects were detained, and arrest warrants were issued for the remaining two suspects who are fugitives.

It was stated that judicial control orders were issued by the magistrates’ court on April 1st for 5 suspects and on April 3rd for 16 suspects, upon the request of the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office; on the same dates, 7 of the 10 suspects were arrested by the magistrates’ court, and 3 suspects were released under judicial control conditions.
